My high resolution digital portraits are modern multi-tasking talents. The portrait can be transformed into anything you can think of, but just for your inspiration here are some ideas:

Realistic but more than a photo
I make sure that all of my artworks have texture. Texture is especially needed in digital portraits to give them a depth and structure to them. Normally the art material itself makes the artwork look structured: Acrylic paints for example have the visible brush strokes or watercolor has the unique water-dye look. I use only up to three brushes in my digital paintings and avoid blending tools, this makes the finished portrait look less flat and more interesting.
